My review-
We are taught to "bury" our past and move forward in life, but is it right? Aren't we taught,at the same time, that the past catches up with us.?
This story runs on this exact teaching- the past always catches up with us.This is the story of Puneet Srivastva, a hard-working successful man who is just "living".
With no personal life in sight, his life takes a 180 degree turn when he is haunted by nightmares.
During the course of the nightmares he catches glimpses of a girl and three children. Even in reality, something unusual happens- he starts seeing a 10 year old kid, Rishi- his supposedly future son who has come into his life to help him search for his mother- Puneet's better-half.
As the story progress Puneet meets a girl, Myra and with Rishi's help he wins over her- however Rishi during the course of the romance seems aloof, also he conveys that Myra is not his mother. Gradually the nightmares become more intense forcing Puneet to wonder why.
Is he seeing the future? Has he gone crazy? Is it a chapter from his past? Does he have something which he himself is unaware of? Why can only he see Rishi? Who is he exactly? What is he hiding? Who is actually Rishi's mother?
Well, these questions are answered as the story gradually progresses.
A gripping story of the past infiltrating into the future creating havoc in the protagonist's life, it comes with all flavors of emotions- love, fear, despair, confusion and a suspense, more of a supernatural one-which reveals its true nature only at the end. A roller-coaster ride with ups and downs at every point.
The story moves at a rapid pace, almost rushed, trying to get to the end as soon as possible, with unnecessary details at several places, also, details are left out in the crucial areas.
The characters are very clichéd, the love story has the same old repetitive expressions. The story line is gripping at some point- only because of the mystery that lies in it, otherwise it's the same average love story. The author has taken the story to another level of fiction defying possibly all sorts of worldly logic or science.
The story does have a very unexpected ending, however the book as a whole is not very satisfactory.
This seems more like a script for some movie- and if its made into one then this will be a good one.
Characters-
Puneet- A successful man just grazing through life without actually living. A mamma's boy who lacks the skill of communication with women. He is our protagonist in whose life, his supposedly future son creates a havoc. He has a past which starts infiltrating into his present. The character is a typical Bollywood hero- the one who only cares about wooing his love interest and who is tormented by problems at the same time.
Myra- She is Puneet's love interest whom he meets with the help Rishi. She plays the role of the perfect lover- a very clichéd character, the all sacrificing, all understanding woman who loves blindly. She, on one hand is portrayed as a strong woman ready to give up her happiness but at the same time is shown as a fragile person subjected to the whims of her man.
Rishi- a 10 year old boy, whom only Puneet can see. He is Puneet's so called future son who had come into his life to help him meet his better-half. This little kid acts like an adult in more than one way- but is he real? This question lurks till the end.
There are several other characters, the most important being Rishi's actual mother- but who is she and in what state she is or where she is, is revealed only in the end.
Writing style-
The writing style is very simple, easily comprehend-able, lucid. However the narration is rushed, leaving out details at most places. There is hardly any character development.
The plot is somewhat complex- might be the reason for the lack of quality writing. The chapters are very short starting with beautiful phrases. the past-present transitions are quite smooth, though it takes a bit of time to adjust to the narration.
Overall it is quite an average book and i would like to recommend this to all those who like light reading and want to read a love story with a twist- you will remain hooked till the end- that's for sure.
Also i would like to thank Sandeep Sharma for providing me with a copy of the book in exchange of an honest review.
