My rating- ★★.5☆☆☆

My review-

This is the story of Prisha Srivastava who moves to Bangalore to study mass communication. Healing from a heart break of herself, as she gradually gets settled into her new life she comes across Saveer Rathod, a man double her age who is better known as ' mean monster' among ladies all across town.
Saveer Rathod is himself nursing his own wounds- the heartbreak following the death of his girlfriend who had died because of him.
Prisha get attracted to him and later on with her friends Gauri and Diggy join an internship in his company- in an attempt to woo him. With time Prisha gets to know Saveer's story but little does she know that whoever loves him gets killed. As the story progresses Prisha's intentions to win over him intensifies.
Will Prisha be able to woo Saveer ? What is the secret that he is hiding? Why do the people he loves always have to die?

The story is supposedly a thriller however it entirely revolves around Prisha's attempts to win over Saveer, Saveer's role as the mean monster, Prisha's encounters with him, a few heavy dialogues regarding heartbreak and "forever", with only a few places where some lady is seen lurking around whenever Saveer is happy. As the story progresses and Saveer gets another chance at happiness, things turn around completely only to end up much in a worse state.
The beginning and the end of the book narrates a death which is perhaps an attempt to build up the suspense behind the story but the narration as a whole is stretched a bit too far. Instead of a thriller it has turned out to those books where the protagonist pursue their love interest with complete determination.
The suspense is absolutely lacking with those parts being an exception where the strange lady is seen. Who is the lady and what connection does she have with Saveer? Being the first part of a duo-logy the book ends on a thrilling note with a death. The certainty and the cause are revealed in the second part.

Characters-

Prisha- She is the protagonist who falls in love with a man double her age. Healing from her own heartbreak she learns a thing or two about life, love and forever. The character is one of those the- girl-next door type, yet filled with determination to win over her love interest.A loyal friend, a fierce lover but with the progression in the story her character loses her charm due to the almost- perfect portrayal.

Saveer- Another protagonist and the "mean monster" of the party circle, the man with a lot of secrets. Supposedly whoever loves him dies, hence for a long time in his life he had been lonely. The loneliness had been filled up by his girlfriend who he loved dearly, however eventually even she became the victim of his ill-fate. His life took a turn when he came across Prisha. He is portrayed as this mysterious man who likes to live above the crowd, a person who is someone by the day and someone by the night- who does things to make himself feel he deserves the misfortune.

The story also has Prisha's college friends Gauri and Diggy who help her in her persuit and are loyal to her when things go downhill. They are the ones who remain the rock support in her new life.

Writing style-

Novoneel Chakraborty is perhaps the best Indian thriller writer but in this book he has failed to display his magic. The entire book has turned out into a regular love story where one resists the other for some reason but eventually they come together. The opening and the ending of the books marks the crescendo paving its way to the second part, but the story in between is just flat.

Over all the story is very average, only to be read just for the sake of reading the second part.
I would recommend it only to the thriller lovers- especially the ones who love to read love stories but a word of caution- you will need a bit of patience to get to the end.
